Superintendent Peter James To Retire from Marblehead Recreation & Parks

Celebrates 39-Year Career Dedicated to Town of Marblehead

Marblehead, MA – January 2026  – Marblehead Recreation & Parks celebrates the dedication of Superintendent of Marblehead Recreation & Parks Peter James. After 39 years serving the Town of Marblehead, James retires from the Town of Marblehead, effective January 30, 2026.

Peter James has served the town of Marblehead for nearly 40 years and raised his family in the beautiful seaside town. He has jumped into many Town of Marblehead leadership roles throughout his career, spanning from seasonal grounds maintenance and park foreman to the Department of Health. Now, he’s retiring from his home as the Superintendent for Marblehead Recreation & Parks overseeing all of Marblehead’s park, athletic, and town properties.

In his most recent role, James led the Marblehead Recreation & Parks grounds team and the community engagement for the care, landscaping, maintenance, and waste removal for more than 80 Town of Marblehead properties, parks, athletic fields, beaches, historic sites, school department properties, courts, and public landings.

From Memorial Park to Castle Rock, there isn’t a blade of grass in Marblehead or grain of sand on Devereux Beach that hasn’t been cared for by James and the team he leads.

Throughout his career, Pete’s dedication to the town has enhanced the environment and the quality of life for the residents of Marblehead. We are grateful for his dedication to the maintenance of our parks, athletic fields, and recreational areas,” says Jaime Bloch, Superintendent of Recreation, Town of Marblehead. “We’ve worked side-by side for nearly 10 years and we will miss his commitment to this Department and his willingness to jump in and help out anytime. But we know he’s not going far; He’ll serve our recreational programs part-time. The kids depend on Coach Pete to get our equipment and buses safely to Bradford Mountain!”
