Meets every Thursday Evening from 6:00pm– 9:00pm
At the Marblehead Council on Aging – with daytime class trips to;
Essex County Middleton House of Correction, and Salem Court House
The Citizen Police Academy (CPA) is a free eight-week course – open to Marblehead residents ages 18 and above – that takes an in-depth look at policing in general terms, and specifically day-to-day policing in Marblehead. Areas of the law, police procedures, and the criminal courts and corrections system will also be examined.
Topics presented by the Marblehead Police Department and the Essex County Sheriff’s Department include:
- History of the Marblehead Police Department and modern policing
- Areas of criminal and constitutional law and police procedures
- Defensive Tactics and Use of Force Applications explained
- Tour of Marblehead Police Headquarters, including the 911 Communication Center, holding facility, and booking procedures
- Visit to the J. Michael Ruane Judicial Center and meeting with local Judges
- Tour of the Middleton House of Corrections
- Motor vehicle stops and O.U.I. enforcement
- Police training and use-of-force simulator at Police Headquarters
- Essex County Sheriff’s Department and K-9 Unit presentations
- Graduation Ceremony
