Mosquito & Tick Information

Mosquitoes and ticks are more than pests. They can carry diseases which can you make very sick. The good news is that there are simple steps that you can take to protect yourself and your family from mosquito and tick bites, and the illnesses they can cause.

Public Health Services
  • Administers immunizations by appointment in accordance with MDPH guidelines
  • Conducts communicable disease investigation & surveillance
  • Enforces smoking, tattoo & body art regulations
  • Head lice checks by request from parents
  • Housing inspections at tenant’s request
  • Lead paint inspection for rental property only
  • Medication disposal, proper sharps disposal & mercury recovery programs
  • Offers health education, information & referrals
  • Participates in emergency planning & bio-terrorism preparedness
  • Performs inspection of food establishments and camps

Medication Disposal Program

Home Sharps Disposal
The Marblehead Board of Health is an Authorized Sharps Collection Center and will accept sharps, lancets and unopened packages of hypodermic needles from residents provided these items are brought into the Board of Health office in approved rigid, leak-proof, puncture resistant and shatter proof container with a tightly closed lid. When are flu clinics for Marblehead residents held?

Dates for flu clinics are announced through the media as soon as Marblehead’s allotment of vaccines is confirmed, received and guidelines are issued by the Massachusetts Department of Public Health. These flu clinics are historically held between mid-October to early December.

Are Marblehead beaches safe for swimming?

Marblehead beaches are tested weekly from Memorial Day to Labor Day.  The results are available by calling (781) 631-0212 or at the Massachusetts State website.

Can I have my child checked for head lice?

You can make an appointment with the Public Health nurse at (781) 631-0212 if you suspect that your child may have a head lice problem.

What are the Town regulations regarding house sanding?

The Marblehead Board of Health, after holding public hearings on the issue, adopted local regulations for house sanding. Copies of the regulations are available at the Health Office at the Mary Alley Municipal Building at 7 Widger Road.
